Our Story

Cultivating Exceptional Character Since 1985.

Since our incorporation in 1985, the Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club (TSSC) has been one of the most cherished assets in our community, touching the lives of more children than any other organization in the region.

Currently enrolling over 300 local and regional youth starting at age five, we are a competitive winter sports club dedicated to inspiring and mentoring the next generation. We offer comprehensive opportunities for children of all ages to pursue their winter sports passion across numerous disciplines, including: Alpine, Freestyle, Snowboard, Freeride, Big Mountain, Cross-Country, Telemark, and Figure Skating.

Our Mission

To cultivate exceptional character through the vehicle of winter sports. We view our youth as the gatekeepers to our future. Our mission is to instill and nurture a lifelong passion for snow sports while developing the character, discipline, and desire that encourages young athletes to reach their absolute highest potential.

Our Philosophy: The Shared Standard

The mountains provide a uniquely challenging and inspiring environment. We believe that coaching children in the competitive world of winter sports fosters individuality, freedom, and deep self-esteem. But our program is about much more than athletic progression—it is a training ground for life.

We embrace a culture where our expectations extend far beyond the snow. We demand personal responsibility, excellence in education, active community involvement, and an unwavering standard of politeness and respect. This standard is expected not just from our athletes, but is actively modeled by our parents, coaches, and community partners. Our goal is to foster a culture that is astoundingly different—a positive, multi-generational presence tangibly felt in everyday life throughout the Telluride valley and beyond.

How We Define Success (Winning Redefined)

We are fierce competitors who provide world-class coaching, training venues, and competition opportunities. However, we do not rely on an outdated scoreboard definition of winning, nor do we rank or prioritize our youth based solely on competition results. At TSSC, true success is measured collectively by:

Obtainment of Skill & Responsibility

The relentless pursuit of personal mastery, unwavering effort, attendance, and goal-setting on and off the hill.

Social Connection & Teamwork

The lifelong bonds forged through shared mountain experiences, promoting camaraderie and learning what it means to be a great teammate.

Giving Back (Overall Impact)

Acting as ambassadors for TSSC, the resort, and the sport. We measure success by the positive, enduring mark our athletes leave on their community.

The Community Engine

TSSC is, at its core, a community family. We believe in equal opportunity and access to the mountains for all kids, but we cannot do it alone. Our program can only exist through the lifeblood of our community: member contributions, dedicated local support, consistent donors, and successful fundraising.
